Installation Tips

Here's some useful information about installing our products.

Sap spouts and Sap spout adapters

Ø 0.225" Straight Sap spout for 5/16" tubing
  • DO NOT lubricate parts during installation.
  • Excessive hammering will damage the sap spout/adapter and reduce its capacity to remain in place.
  • Tap: Light hammering is required. Sap spouts/adapters should not be bent/deformed in order to remain flexible and respond well to freeze / thaw periods.
  • Alcohol: Is use greatly reduces friction and causes parts to adhere to each other making them difficult to disassemble.
  • Adapter: Insert the adapter first into the tree and gently hammer it. Insert the sap spout by hand and give it a light hammer blow.
  • 90° elbow: Insert the straight sap spout first into the tree and gently hammer it. Insert the 90° elbow and give it a light hammer blow.
  • Drill Bit: Using a drill bit of a slightly larger diameter allows sap spouts/adapters to withstand more aggressive notching.
Trunk diameter Tap hole depth
9" and 14" ¾" to 1¼"
15" and more 1" to 1½"
Depth: depending on bark thickness, the spouts/adaptors and drill bit selected, the depth of the tap hole may be deeper.
